David Vitter
In 1999, David Vitter took over former Louisiana Congressman Bob Livingston's House seat, who had resigned following revelations of an extramarital affair (more on that here). Said Vitter, "Livingston's stepping down makes a very powerful argument that Clinton should resign as well." In 2007, now a Louisiana Senator, Vitter's name was discovered in the address book of "DC Madam" Deborah Jeane Palfrey. Vitter had been accused during his 2004 campaign of having had a lengthy affair with a prostitute in New Orleans, which Vitter said was "absolutely and completely untrue" and "just crass Louisiana politics." Vitter has been an advocate of abstinence-only education ("saving sex until marriage and remaining faithful afterwards is the best choice for health and happiness"), and proposed to amend the Constitution to ban same-sex marriage, saying, "I'm a conservative who opposes radically redefining marriage, the most important social institution in human history." He remains in office.
